Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has gone with Reece Walsh ahead of James Tedesco at fullback for Australia's Rugby League World Cup opener. Walters explained his reasoning for leaving Tedesco out, with reports connecting Tedesco's NRL grand final performance to the call.
The decision has raised eyebrows across the rugby league community, given Tedesco's status among the best in the position. It is a controversial choice heading into the tournament.
Jack Preston was also added to the team, picking up his first representative call-up. Preston's inclusion gives Walters more options as Australia prepares for the World Cup campaign.
